Oakland Natives Give Back is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do at our Nonprofit Organization is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of our society’s biggest challenges. We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities.
Our school-based initiatives are designed to increase awareness of the direct relationship between daily school attendance and student educational attainment rate as they relate to the school's ability to provide the resources necessary for children to successfully graduate from high school.
PROGRAMS
SELECT SCHOOL CHALLENGE
During 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years, ONGB piloted the Select School Challenge as an attendance-related incentive for students attending five elementary schools with higher-than-average absenteeism. One student from each participating school received a $500 award every month for their perfect attendance during a five month period. The success of children arriving to school on-time increases daily attendance and reduces the overall absenteeism rate for our school systems.
