Parent ambassadors
A parent action group who assist us in connecting with parents in Oakland.
1:1 support by being a “door to door- advocate” ensuring every child is doing well.
- Decrease barriers for other families, by making sure children are enrolled well before the 1st day of school, guidance during the school year increasing daily attendance and ultimately increasing daily attendance year round.
Neighborhood Walks/
Parent Visits
Walks in which stakeholders and community members knock on doors and speak to families about truancy, chronic absenteeism and neighborhood-specific community issues. We also work directly with parents of children struggling with chronic absence. On a case-by-case basis, we pinpoint a student’s barriers to regular attendance and identify resources for ensuring that he or she attends school regularly and ultimately graduates from high school
Teacher Workshops
Interactive and informative workshops dedicated to helping Teachers learn how to be more creative in the classroom. We aim to make schools more attractive for parents and children, providing them with the “shiny new look” feel. Teachers will learn the important relationship between experiential learning and reducing chronic absenteeism gaining the support needed to keeps children in school.

Awards Ceremonies
Three times a year, during our Every Day Counts Attendance Challenge, we celebrate 20 winners who have perfect attendance with an assembly at their school. In front of their peers, they are rewarded with a “big check” for $500 and praised for attending school each day during that cycle. The children and families are then invited to ONGB Headquarters to receive the award money, meet with our Executive Team and presented with a backpack full of school supplies to further inspire them to be great in the classroom.

Attend and Achieve Back to School Rally
TOOLS FOR SCHOOL- TOOLS FOR SUCCESS
Since 2008, Oakland Natives Give Back has held an annual Attend and Achieve Back to School Rally and Health Fair served as our flagship event- to help Oakland public school youth start the school year prepared to learn. This collaborative Back-to-School celebration is planned in partnership with the City of Oakland's Office of the Mayor, City Administrator, Assemblymember Rob Bonta’s office, and Oakland Unified School District located at the Oakland City Hall.
This space is ideal for writing a detailed description of your business and the types of services that you provide. Talk about your team and your areas of expertise.
ONGB has given:
-
20,000 backpacks with age-appropriate school supplies
-
5,000 pairs of shoes
-
2,500 bus passes
-
free food for Oakland residents and their families on the day of the rally.
The average cost of these gifts to the community since 2008 is close to 1 million dollars. This cost savings to families allows their hard earned money to be spent on living costs, like housing, childcare, medical care and food. Most importantly, the rally inspires, empowers and prepares our youth for the new school year!
